- In Kehinde Wiley's work is very interesting art pices. On his paintings he uses the idea/theme of Renaissance background styles and use people to show
the how rich are they..The artist Kehinde Wiley shows the intertextuality through his same kinds of paintings. However very interesting points on this is,
that Wiley represents the intertextuality by using the person on his painting. For example, people normally sees and thinks that the original Renaissance paintings
has the white people on it. But the artist Wiley painted black man. By this point, he is making viewers make sense of only white people have right to have a power.

-PLURALISM is atr refers to the nature and artists as diverse. And the works are relates to the theme of Wiley's works.
Because on his painting he mostly painted with black males which consists the works and low level of classes that time. Nowdays we have equality and everyone has the right to
to something equally. In his paintings we can get a messages of that all the people are same and it shows the changes and developments of the world's culture.

-Wiley's work raises the ideas of that all people like 'Black'and 'White' men are same and has equality and has same powers like we have. Also both kinds of people are same human
and must not be judged my skin colours like race and how they act. This artist Kehinde Wiley breaked the idea of stereotype of worldwide viwe..His works with the ideas brought up many
different thiking to this society..

-When I was research about this artist 'Kehinde Wiley' I found that he is an interesting artist. Because he is like and pop artist.
When we see his paintings some are very similier to the old paintings and he just followed and changed some styles to his style.
Also the details are very fine with the colour matchs. So that peopel can have more attentions to the works. Also the bright richness
colour choices are really joined with the subjects.

Week 3- Hussein Chalayan

Chalayan is an artist and designer, working in film, dress and installation art. Research Chalayan’s work,
and then consider these questions in some thoughtful reflective writing.

1. Chalayan’s works in clothing, like Afterwords (2000) and Burka (1996) , are often challenging to both the viewer and the wearer.
What are your personal responses to these works? Are Afterwords and Burka fashion, or are they art? What is the difference?
Not all clothing is fashion, so what makes fashion fashion?
-Hussein chellenges on her works. On her fashion works(picture below) presents the chellengin works with her models by wearing all different lengths of burka with naked.
It is unusuall designs and unusuall forms to presents fashion works. To me I feel this "Bunka" fashion works are still art works. Because it is unusuall and people woould not
think of this kinds of works. Although this kind of works will be increases by the artist Hussein Chalayan. However peopel wouldn't wear it anytime like we wear cloths, but
in my opinion people will try it on special days like party or celebrations and fashion shows.

2. Chalayan has strong links to industry. Pieces like The Level Tunnel (2006) and Repose (2006) are made in collaboration with,
and paid for by, commercial business; in these cases, a vodka company and a crystal manufacturer.
How does this impact on the nature of Chalayan’s work? Does the meaning of art change when it is used to sell products? Is it still art?
-This impacts on the nature of Chalayan's wrok by creating the work pices. For me it doesn't change the meaning of art. Other artists are creating the works to presents
and give ideas to peopel. Chalayan is also one of them too. And the meaning of the art does not change, when it used to sell products. They produses the pices of work
to show and tell the ideas that they have to peo ple as I mentioned before. They are not only creats works for be paied and earn money, and of course it is a still are to me.

3. Chalayan’s film Absent Presence screened at the 2005 Venice Biennale. It features the process of caring for worn clothes,
and retrieving and analysing the traces of the wearer, in the form of DNA.
This work has been influenced by many different art movements; can you think of some, and in what ways they might have inspired Chalayan’s approach?
- Chalayan's film Absent Presence screende at the 2005 Venice Biennale is and enigmatic movie based on the geography,genetics, identity, anthropology and biology.
I think this is like her art works and it also installate with the film images and sculptures with fashion design.
How does this influence this artwork...It includes scientific thoughts like geography,genetics, identity, anthropology and biology.All this kinds of topics are influenced and inspired Chalayan’s approach.

4. Many of Chalayan’s pieces are physically designed and constructed by someone else;
for example, sculptor Lone Sigurdsson made some works from Chalayan’s Echoform (1999) and Before Minus Now (2000) fashion ranges. In fashion design this is standard practice,
but in art it remains unexpected. Work by artists such as Jackson Pollock hold their value in the fact that he personally made the painting.
Contrastingly, Andy Warhol’s pop art was largely produced in a New York collective called The Factory,
and many of his silk-screened works were produced by assistants. Contemporarily, Damien Hirst doesn’t personally build his vitrines or preserve the sharks himself.
 So when and why is it important that the artist personally made the piece?
-The ART is for messangers to artists for the people who sees the works. Art has personall ideas,concepts, messageses ect to give people what they think and how important od an artist's personal designs.
When painters,Scholptors, designers ect creates the works it represents more meanings. So I personally think when art began the importance of an artist's works, their own works is always important and has right to give messages

- Art and Design was very hugely influenced by the postmodernity and shift form arts and viewers. And art and designs are getting more interesting by Hyper-realiy. It seems more powerful than the "real", images with no texts with no prior "original". Also they make things looks very realistic. They uses more interested in exploring with new materials and methods to creates their art works.

- Ai Weiwei was born in 18 May 1957. He is a Chinese artist and political activist who are active in architecture, curating, photography, film and social and cultural critism. The work Ai Weiwei's 'Han Dynasty Urn with Coca-Cola logo'(1994)
he printed the "Coca Cola" logo in his pot by hand. It is hand printed. This works shows us that it is a mordernist feature. By combines two different ideas on his work like a work showing below, we can see this artist is an modernist artist who mixed and combines the different ideas  to present the post mordernism.

-The street artist Banksy is a England graffiti street artist. He was born in 1974 and raised in Bristol England. This artist is famouse to some people and very new to other people. Because his works are quite unique and works on street walls.
Banksy is political activist like a "Ai Weiwei", film directer andn painter. The work "Flowe Riot" shows the idea of Post mordernism by throwing the beautiful flowers instead of others like glass bottles, blocks..etc harmful and damaging metarials.
Also he operates post-mordernism act in itself by rejecting the mordern ways in his works.

WEEK 1- Nathalie Djurberg's 'Claymations'.

1. What do you understand by the word 'claymation'?
-'claymation' is a kind of art that artists are using the material called "clay" and take picture or motions many time in a second. Then they joined them together and shows the animations. In these days, peopel produces the animations, Tv programmes and Kid shows with it.

-'surrealistic Garden of Eden' is a kind of combination words with surrealism(surrealistic) and Garden of Eden. Surrealism means "unrealistic","Not real" and  Garden of Eden means that the place where the first man"Adam" and his wife"Eve" lived after they were created by God. The artist Nathalie Djurberg produces are describing the meaning of 'surrealistic Garden of Eden' which is not real.However it its bringing out the Garden of Eden.
- 'all that is natural goes awry' has meaning of different changes of human's movements and lifes and their styles. It says "everythings like natures are changing". In Nathalie Djurberg's clay works she used a different skilll to the others like banded clays and twisted them.

-The artist Nathalie Djurberg creates clay works with her emotions which are scary and dark feeling with happeness growing up. Her work show lots of ranges of peopel think all differently.

- In her works for children's stories, she used the idea of immagination of human. So she used many colours for Kids which looks colourful and the stories are very simple.

-In my opinion, in these days there are many designers, painters, sculptures etc around the world. And they would like to make their own works that nobody did before. That is why some desingers with turuning innocent and sweet into somthing disturbing.

6. In your opinion, why do you think Djurberg's work is so interesting that it was chosen for the Venice Biennale?
-In my opinion, Djurberg's work is so interesting because her metarials for the works are very fresh to me. I saw some animations created my clay but I haven't research about people who did claymation. Also she shows us the changing of the humanity by adding the idea of 'surrealistic Garden of Eden'.

7. Add some of your own personal comments on her work.

 

-These two art works are very interesting to me. When I see her works I felt it is very uncommen for me. Although her works making me to think, look and search about it more. Nathalie Djurberg's works are very very fresh to me and I would like to find out more about her.

Week 9-Modernism and Post-Modernism

Claude Monet

1. Outline the intentions of each artist.

To capture the moment. Impressionism wasn't about intentions it was all about capturing the moment. Alsp he uses the plein air to work according to the expression of the natural bright, speaking effectly.
When he paints, he normally uses the water colours, he doesn't use the palette to mix the water colours.
And the subjests that he paints are normally about the natural subjects like flowers, waters like a pictures above.
techniques: Technipues that the artist Claude Monet used are very fine details. For example, his motion of his hand paintbrush are very smoothe and sofe, also the painting shows the free movements. On the painting we cannot see theh thick brush lines. The painter Claude Monet always think his paintings are showing the feeling of him which is Claude Monet's. Monet used quite a limited palette, banishing browns and earth colors on his works.

Chuck Close

1. Outline the intentions of each artist. The artist Chuck Close's intention shows the idea of himself with self potraits, friends and families with huge scales of works. His goal is to have an interest in the surface of the array is one. And for other purposes actually interested in making an object from the other movements are several things to change into.

4. Note 3 similarities of the work of both artists.

1st is that both artists are used the variety of colours on their paintings.

2nd is that two painters are normally using the oil paints on canvos and pastels.

3rd they are all fine details on their paints so that we could get a feeling of the painters what they think and how they feel about the paints.

 

5. What are some differences between the artist's work. (at least 3)

Both painters are all great although they uses different painting techniques. Also the subjects are all different. For example, Chuck Close normally paints portraits and Claude Monet paints about the natural landscapes. Finally the biggest difference between two artists are the colour. Claude Monet uses earth tones of colours with out black, although Chuck Close uses all the colours includes black.

 

With two artist are very new to me. I haven't heard about them before I do the blog research. However now I found that they are very great painters and they inspired me some ideas of the works that im doing it at the moment. The works are awsome and interesting.

Chuck close's with a paint brush clamped between his teeth, he developed a new way to paint. Later he has developed a device to hold his hand and brush to paint in the small grid areas. His portraits, the photos and canvases are gridded off by assistants and then he uses the techniques of grisaille and pointillism within the grids.

Week 7-Industrialisation and Cao Fei's RMB City

Industrialisation in the late 1800s, and today.

The artists of the late 1800's and early 1900's, in Europe, were influenced by the Industrial revolution

1. What and when was the Industrial Revolution?
-The Industrial Revolution brought rapid irbanization and population growth  to almost every countries.
This Indurstrial Revolution period begans between 18th and 19th century. It effected to manufacturing, transportation, technology and mining. This urbanization was facilitated by the new factory-owing bourgeoisie, who constructed factories in convenient town and then provided hundreds of jobs for people who would relocate.
-Two paintings that are from the early 1900s were painted by  Modernist painters from the group called 'Futurists' The Futurists celebrated the machine, and objects in motion. Their primary objective was to depict movement, which they saw as symbolic of their commitment to the dynamic forward thrust of the 20th century

2. Research both Modernist paintings in order to comment on the subject matter, form and style used to celebrate the machine and motion in each painting. Answer the question in 2 parts for each painting.
-

The first painting, when I saw it the first time, the artist used the warm colour on the painting. Although the meaning of the paints shows the machine is destracting the people and in my point of wive, i can see that people are trying to save the city form the machine. However the sttle of the painting has rough painting skills.

The seond painting has only used the black colour of the paints. It shows the dog is running away from something. It is focucing the theme of machine  and the motion. In my opnion, it is giving the idea of something moving and careless things.

This image used form the degital collage refers to Second life. It was conceived as an online platform for participants to create a parallel reality in which to live out their dreams and has 14 million registered users. Each user is represented by an avatar, a digital figure that they can customise and control. Cao Fei, as her avatar, China Tracy, has constructed a virtual city that will continue to grow and change over its two-year run with the participation and support of leading international art institutions and networks.

4.RMB City is described as a utopia/dystopia. Comment on what these terms mean, and how they can be applied to the work

-On the work RMB city was described as utopia. It has the meaning of not a real city, non- existent city. This works can be apploed to the work as it potrays both ideas of utopia and dystopia. It is also be seen as a dystopia as it could be seen a a place where the advancement of technoogy has took over and wrong. This utopia can be seen as the movie 'Avatar'.

5. Although the Modernist paintings and the contemporary digital work have emerged from
different contexts, there are also many similarities. Comment on the similarities that you can see in the work

- I can see the motion as a commen ideo of these works. And they are showing the all different ways to understand the idea and the ideo of celebration of machine and motion together.
Two paintings above that I mentioned before was 2D paintings, although RMB city, we can see the 3D effects with 2D effects. It is very effective to deliver the ideas and messages about industrialisation.

Week 5- Science and reason- Video art by Pipilotti Rist

1. Define the 17th century 'Scientific Revolution', and say how it changed European thought and world view.

The beginning of 17th centries "Scientific Revolution" was well known. But in this time period, it brought the way how Europeans think about it possitively and the natural world. physics, chemistry, biology and astronomy etc was the new ideos for them. From this points, the period of the environments and technologys are more developed and became more close to the mordern world view and thinking. nowdays people are keep finding new methods and new techologys for more developed futures.

2. Give examples of how we can we still see evidence of the 'Scientific Revolution' in the world today.

The 'Scientific Revolution' still enfluenced in these days in our lifes, as an examples, the math, chemistry, biology, physics and other subjests are influencing the our lifes today. Because these subjects are really need for the consruting the building, and other mechenical works. Therefore, we can use internets and computers and videos etc todays world.  Although this materials are began from 17th cetries 'Scientific Revolution'. So that we can still see a lot of evidencce of it.

3. From your research, do you think that the contemporary art world values art work

that uses new media/technology over traditional media?

In my opnion, new technology and new media is very useful for creating other art works. Because using both medias, people can createts lots of different art works by using different skill but with both medias.

These medias are very valuble for people who creates works. Also I think  the artises are able to make there won works by their creative thinkings.

4. How has Pipilotti Rist used new media/technology to enhance the audience's experience of her work.

The artist, Pipilotti Rist is different to the other artists. She normally uses the video works and to present the works she uses two walls with two projestors. On the fist wall she represents the angry feeling with little bit of violence act like breaking windows. And on the other wall she projected the soft feeling of ideas sucj as bright warm colour of flowers. Therefore we can see the main themes clearly from ther video works whisch are realated to sexuality, gender and humanism and others.

5. Comment on how the installation, sound and scale of 'Ever is Over All' (1997) could impact on the audience's experience of the work.

The work 'Ever is Over All' (1997) could impact on the audience as the big scales of the two walls by projecting the vieods. It shows the woman smashing the car windows. And the music(sound) makes audiences intenced and the breaking window sound make people bit nervious. And the installation is bit different to the others. Because she put the projectors one side and she put it one on the side and one on the front. so that it seems to be 3D. I think it is very impactful to the audience's experience of the work.

6. Comment on the notion of 'reason' within the content of the video. Is the woman's behaviour reasonable or unreasonable?

The artist uses two differnt feelings so I don't think there are notion of 'reason' within the content of the video of behaviour reasonable or unreasonable.

7. Comment on your 'reading' (understanding) of the work by discussion the aesthetic (look), experience and the ideologies (ideas, theories) of the work.

When I read the Pipilotti Rist's work, we need to think more deeply to understand her works. Because she has a creativity to give ideas to the viwers like me. In my opnion, she got a good start fo her work with goes bigger and more bigger.
